Holcomb's
"Deep Shade Mix"
Grass Seed
Growing grass under trees has always been a problem. For years, it was recommended to sow Creeping Red Fescue in the shade, however, it is prone to fungus problems and will not tolerate traffic very well. Holcomb Garden Center has joined their lawn grass experience along with the leading turf grass breeders in the nation to bring your a great grass seed blend for shade. Yes, it will grow in the sun as well.
Our Holcomb's Deep Shade Mix is a combination of drought tolerant turf-type fescue, Hard fescue, and Chewing fescue. This combination provides deep green color, excellent shade tolerance, and incredible drought tolerance. The biggest struggle of grasses under trees is the fact that the trees take up 80% of the soil moisture. Our Deep Shade Mix is the most shade tolerant and drought tolerant blend of grasses to be found.
Plant in early fall to get it rooted before the leaves start to fall. Keep leaves off so they don't smother the new grass. Next spring your will have a well established shady lawn.
